New York University MAG

New York, NY: If you want to attend college in a quiet, country setting, then New York University is not for you. However, if you dream of going to college in a place where there is always something to do, whether it be visiting an art museum or a street show, and there are 250 student clubs each year, including cultural, academic, and government groups, then New York University, located in the heart of New York City, Greenwich Village, is for you.

I took a bus to NYU in February and spent the whole day visiting. The campus is centered around Washington Square Park, which is referred to as "The Park" among the NYU community, and I was shocked to hear birds chirping and see cobblestone streets!

The environment is very stimulating: there are plenty of stores and, while there is no official "beginning" to the campus (as with a typical college setting), you can tell when you have arrived. There are students milling about, and you can see all of the collegiate buildings. There is even a trolley route around campus!

Additionally, there are always guest artists visiting, some of whom have been: The Village People, Spin Doctors, Naughty by Nature, and Queen Latifah.

Academically, New York University is also great: most students have a GPA above 3.0 and you can literally major in anything. NYU is a spectacular school for journalism. I went to their bookstore, and picked up a copy of The Washington Square News, the daily newspaper, and read articles on child care at NYU, Bill Clinton's economic plan, and the women's basketball team, and NY View, a political newspaper. There is also WNYU, their radio station, NYU Television's Violet Mania, and a plethora of other written publications.

New York University is so great! Words cannot describe it ... you must see it for yourself! n
