Author's note:

i procrastinated a lot while writing this.

The author's comments:

This chapter is a prequel to the main chunk of my story it gives you background information.

The story starts off in 1775 at the battle of bunker hill were sixteen-year-old Preston Morgan was serving in the continental army as a drummer boy. When the first wave of British soldiers came and tried to attack the continental army they were slaughtered there was a massive wave of the color red. Next, the second wave came forward as I played my drum in a victorious way and they just stood no chance against the continental army and their high ground. Then, our commander shouted, “Were out of gunpowder so the continental soldiers put up the best fight they possibly could but were no match for the British having an unimaginable supply of weaponry but in this scuffle, I was shot in the hand and had to drop my drum. Finally, I had to suspend to bleeding somehow so I used my drum stick to pierce the sides of the drums cloth and make a makeshift bandage and I ran the opposite direction of the battleground.

The author's comments:

this part was  fun to write but it's really short

About a day after running from the battleground, I made it to Boston and got my hand fixed up it took about twenty minutes to get the ball out of my hand as it was a minor injury but the pain, it was unbearable. After that ordeal, I was walking around Boston and I observed someone in an alleyway that looked suspicious so I went up to him and asked, “what are doing?” he didn't respond so I said it louder, “excuse me what are you doing in this alleyway!” the mysterious man finally acknowledged me he said, “Shush I work for the Continental army and I’m recruiting members, why do you want to serve.” Then I thought about it for a minute and willingly said, yes I’d love to join.” and he handed me a piece of paper that was a contract that I willingly signed. Finally, I went to the place that he told me to

appear at near quarter past eleven.

The author's comments:

This chapter is one of my favorites as I thought Valley Forge was cool.

After about a week of guidance, I was drafted into the continental army.  However, I learned that I would have to go to this camp for the winter named Valley Forge and stay there till spring is about to end, and were ready to fight again. Then while I was at Valley Forge I saw This guy in a uniform I think he was named Von Steuben and he was training a decent group of men and it just looked harsh for them they did way too much in that five-minute window. A few minutes after, I saw a group of men that were chopping down a group of trees I offered to help them and out of the ten trees, I chopped down three then I realized that we were going to make a cabin so we had to chop more and more trees we probably chopped down thirty by the time we were ready to build a cabin up. Then, we had to make all these divots in the trunks to make support for the cabin after that we just kept stacking logs again and again. During, February my bunkmate Colm Hanover told me, deliver this letter to my friend in cabin eight as I’m not feeling well.” So I decide to be helpful and go to cabin eight to deliver his letter I knock on the door, no response knock again and someone answers I say, does Colm Hanover live here by any chance?” He said, why yes Colm lives here why do you ask?”  I replied, “ I have a letter for him from my bunkmate Angus Fitzgerald.” after that he said, “Come on ahead in Colm is on the top right bunk” so I handed it to Colm, but when I handed him the letter he coughed right in my direction and said, “thank you” right after.

The author's comments:

This chapter is the first actual battle that Preston was in

Afterwards about four months later in June we had to leave Valley Forge all the work just to leave it behind needless to say I was exasperated I just didn't get it why we would just leave all this hard work behind but right then and there I learned that our troop was going to go to Monmouth all the way in New Jersey. So we had to march in a huge group for thirty hours all the way to New Jersey. Then when we were in Monmouth. We had to set up camp and excavate a trench out for us to shoot from. When the war was going on we had to fight from one to six every single day just nonstop for five days again and again just constant gunfire. While we were in Monmouth  late one night I started coughing rapidly I think I blacked out from coughing luckily my friend that shared a tent with me, Lenny Matthews was awoken by my loathsome coughs he saw me passed out on the ground and knew something was amiss so he had to lug me all the way to the doctor as I kept becoming unconscious for a span of six minutes until Lenny talked to the doctor I don’t know what he said but here’s what I made out. Then Lenny exclaimed,” Wake up my friends dying! The doctor woke up he questioned Lenny, then Lenny replied he’s dying look at him he woke me up while coughing and then he passed out.” I suddenly had woken up and realized what was happened.

The author's comments:

The chapter was my favorite one to write

The doctor had asked me the symptoms I said I’m, “coughing, sweating and have a fever.” then he asked, “when you cough is there blood?” I responded, “sometimes.” After, I replied he wrote something down and washed his hand. I asked, “him what it was?” the doctor replied,” well it’s not good news.”. Well, I know that” I anxiously said.” The doctor, “said you’ve got tuberculosis.” Then and there I had a flashback from Valley forge when I delivered that letter to Colm Hanover when he coughed in my face so I asked the doctor,” do you a man by the name of Angus Fitzgerald?” He said, “why yes I do, in fact, he died of the same disease a few days ago.” after that moment I went back to my tent Lenny had been passed out snoring while I thought for a while about how life is the building of a shrine that just burns and how life constantly lays astray But I guess that’s just the way it is. Subsequently, after all, that think I finally was ready to sleep, but at about nine I was woken up by someone shouting and it was our general and he said to me from a distance that  I would have to move my tent away from everyone as we were outnumbered and could not afford sickness so I obliged and said,” Okay I'll move.” after I moved, however, all I got was food and water and I wasn't even able to fight in the battle. But after About a week after I was diagnosed I got sick of the not being able to fight so late one night I grabbed my knife and snuck over to Britain's side and started to try and find their leader Sir Henry Clinton but sadly I could find him so I tried to find any soldier I could and I did so I went for him and then started rapidly coughing again until I blacked out or so I thought but that’s when I stopped breathing altogether and died.
